FAQ

How much does sash window restoration cost in Bedfordshire?

The cost of a full sash window restoration depends on several key factors:
Size: The overall dimensions of the window.
Style: The complexity of the sash, such as multi-pane designs.
Condition: The extent of timber decay, paint layers, and operational issues.
Level of Restoration: The specific services required, from draught-proofing to full timber replacement.
As a guide, a full restoration for a typical residential ‘one over one’ sash window begins at approximately £1800. This price is a guide and does not include significant timber repairs or cill replacement. For a precise and detailed estimate, we recommend booking a consultation.

How long does a typical sash window restoration take?

Our goal for a complete restoration is typically 14-15 working days. However, this timeframe can vary depending on factors like the initial condition of the sash and seasonal weather conditions which can affect paint curing times. Each sash window has its own history and challenges. We guarantee that no shortcuts are ever taken in our process. Every window, especially those over a century old, is treated with the respect and meticulous care it deserves.

What types of windows do you specialise in?

We are specialists in the restoration of traditional timber sash windows. We know them inside out and are one of the leading restorers in our area, with extensive experience working on historical and listed properties, often within conservation areas.
While our focus is timber sashes, we work closely with trusted specialists for stained glass panels. This allows us, by arrangement only, to restore the wooden frames while the delicate glasswork is handled by an expert. This collaborative approach ensures the highest quality and has enabled us to work on many exciting projects, including historical buildings, churches, and National Heritage properties.
Please note, we do not currently restore steel or uPVC windows.

What areas do you cover for sash window restoration?

We provide specialist sash window services within a 12-mile radius of Winslow, covering key areas such as Bedford and Milton Keynes. For a detailed map and a full list of the towns and villages we serve, please visit our Areas We Cover page.

I think my sash windows need work. How do I start?

The first step is to get in touch with us. You can call, email, use the contact form on our website, or click the WhatsApp button. We do our best to be as helpful as possible from the very first conversation. If we both agree that your project is a potential fit for our services, the next step is to book a detailed on-site consultation. We highly recommend this as the definitive way to move forward.

What happens during the consultation and how much is it?

Our consultations are thorough assessments designed to give you a complete understanding of your project. We typically conduct them on Saturdays to be more convenient for our clients. During your two-hour allocated slot, we will:
Assess every sash you wish to include in the project.
Discuss your priorities, needs, and expectations.
Provide professional recommendations and explore potential options.
This detailed assessment allows us to create a comprehensive proposal and estimate with no obligation to proceed. We currently charge a pre-payable fee of £50 for this service, which covers our travel and the time required to produce your detailed plan. Please let us know if you have any concerns about us taking photographs, which are essential for our assessment. All client details and images are treated with the strictest confidentiality.
We highly recommend a brief initial contact before booking a consultation. This ensures the project is a good fit for your needs and our specialist services, saving everyone valuable time.

We are on a tight budget. Are there flexible options?

Yes, absolutely. Most of our projects are completed in stages to help clients manage their budget and cash flow effectively. We invoice on a ‘per window’ basis. This means for a project with three windows, for example, you would receive three separate invoices as each window is completed, allowing you to plan your finances accordingly.

What if my sashes just have broken glass, snapped cords or are painted shut?

These issues—broken glass, snapped cords, or seized sashes—are typically classified as repairs or maintenance, not full-scale restoration. Please contact us directly to discuss your options. These are often simpler, more straightforward jobs, and we can provide you with a clear path forward and associated costs.

Can I get referrals from your previous clients?

Absolutely. We are proud of the work we do and the relationships we build with our clients. We have a long list of successful projects and are happy to provide references where clients have given us their express permission to do so. After all, your home is one of your most significant assets, and trust is paramount. During the proposal stage, we will ask if you are comfortable being a reference for the future—there is no obligation whatsoever.

What happens after I accept your proposal?

Once you accept our proposal, our working relationship officially begins. We will immediately move to the next steps, which include scheduling a firm start date, discussing the logistics of the work, and preparing for the transformation of your beautiful sashes.
